Nico Williams signs, Luis Diaz exits, £49m deal done - Dream Liverpool attack after two transfers

Liverpool have already shown thus far this summer that it will not be a busy transfer window. But that is not to say it cannot still become significant for the club.

Because the Copa America and European Championship took up much of June and July, dozens of players still face uncertain futures despite pre-season training now being well underway. The Reds realise that more than most, with several players still set to be on holiday until early August. For clubs across Europe, the reality is that their belated returns may only last a matter of weeks. That could also be the case at Kirkby.

Luis Diaz has been the subject of speculation about his future this summer and last. A year ago, it was the Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal; now it is Barcelona. Offers have yet to arrive, as was the case 12 months ago. Regardless, the club have no intention of selling Diaz. But maybe they should.

Cody Gakpo. Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah were more effective in front of goal than their teammate last season. Despite that, the Reds could conceivably receive double the £37 million transfer fee they paid Porto for Diaz two-and-a-half years later. The Colombia international turns 28 midway through the coming campaign, meaning this summer could be one of the last windows to cash in, especially with three years remaining on his contract.
