Riccardo Calafiori is reportedly set to move to Arsenal, with some claiming that a deal for the Bologna star is all but done.
Speaking on The Debrief, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Calafiori and his impending move to Arsenal, and he says that the Italian is considered by Arsenal as a perfect signing.
Indeed, Romano says that Arsenal believe that Calafiori is the perfect addition to their squad due to his talent and versatility, stating that he’s considered as a brilliant option at both left-back and centre-back.
Arsenal view Riccardo Calafiori as perfect signing
Romano shared how Arsenal view the defender.
“I don’t think it’s linked to Gabriel’s situation. Calafiori is considered the perfect signing for Arsenal because he can play at centre-back, but he is a left-back, he started his career as a left-back, he always played as a left-back, and he’s considered a perfect option in both positions,” Romano said.
Calafiori is ideal
Arsenal view Calafiori as the perfect signing, and they’re not wrong.
The Italian is capable of plugging two of the main problem areas within this Arsenal team.
Calafiori will likely be utilised as Arsenal’s starting left-back, but if anything were to happen to Gabriel Magalhaes, he could also move across to be a centre-half option.
Arsenal’s defence is as solid as they come, but, as William Saliba’s injury towards the end of the 2022/23 season showed, the north London club can be slightly vulnerable if injuries or suspensions occur in the back four.
Arsenal needed some cover and some quality in those left-sided defensive slots, and Calafiori provides exactly that.
The Italian looks like he will be Arsenal’s first signing of the summer, and Arsenal are solving two important issues at the same time with this addition.
