Report: Arne Slot is eyeing a move to sign £38m Premier League defender who Jurgen Klopp also wanted

New Liverpool boss Arne Slot has set his sights on a talented Premier League defender.

Reds fans were really excited to see what their new boss would do in the transfer market after he was appointed as Jurgen Klopp’s successor in May.

However, for one reason or another, Liverpool are yet to make a single signing in this summer’s transfer window, and many supporters are worried.

Now, a report has revealed that Slot is considering a move to sign a defender from another Premier League club this summer.

Rayan Ait-Nouri is on Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s radar
Slot could do with reinforcements in multiple areas of their pitch.

A new midfielder has to be the priority for Liverpool. They need a number six to play with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in the middle of the park.

Liverpool need additions at the back too. Joel Matip has left the club and he needs to be replaced, while an argument can be made that the Reds should also sign a new left-back.

Andy Robertson had his fair share of injury issues in the 2023/24 season, while there are doubts over whether Kostas Tsimikas is good enough to be the first-choice left-back for the whole season. Joe Gomez might just be their best left-back at the moment.

That’s probably why Liverpool are looking at Rayan Ait-Nouri of Wolves.

GiveMeSport reveal that the Wolves defender is on Slot’s radar now, and the Reds could potentially sign Ait-Nouri without even negotiating with Gary O’Neil’s side.

That’s because reports have claimed that the 23-year-old left-back has a release clause in his contract at Wolves worth €45 million, which is just under £38 million (La Gazette Du Fennec).

Liverpool, however, face competition from Manchester United. Erik ten Hag also wants to sign Ait-Nouri to solve his side’s left-back woes this summer.

Jurgen Klopp also wanted to sign Ait-Nouri for Liverpool
Ait-Nouri is by no means a new name for Liverpool fans.

The talented Wolves defender has been on the Reds’ radar for a number of years now. Reports claimed back in December 2021 that Liverpool were interested in signing Ait-Nouri.

Those links returned in November 2023 again. It was reported that Klopp’s Liverpool were pushing to sign Ait-Nouri from Wolves.

The legendary German didn’t get his man during his time at Anfield, but if Slot really wants to sign Ait-Nouri this summer, there’s every chance he can get him.

However, it remains to be seen if Liverpool can convince the Wolves star to join them ahead of Manchester United this summer.
