The Gunners will begin their pre-season tour in the early hours of Thursday, but they haven’t made any new signings yet apart from turning David Raya’s loan into a permanent deal.
However, if reports are to be believed, Riccardo Calafiori is on the verge of joining Arsenal, and he would be a fantastic addition to their side.
The Gunners will need a few more signings, and Edu Gaspar has reportedly made a contract offer to sign a hugely talented player.
Arsenal have offered a contract to Mikel Merino
Arsenal definitely need a new midfielder this summer.
The Gunners released Mohamed Elneny at the end of his contract in July, while Albert Sambi Lokonga has been sent out on loan. That leaves Mikel Arteta with just Declan Rice, Thomas Partey and Jorginho in the number six role.
The Premier League runners-up have been linked with plenty of midfielders over the last few weeks as a result, but reports have revealed that Mikel Merino is Arsenal’s top target this summer.
The Real Sociedad midfielder has entered the final year of his contract, and it is looking increasingly likely that he will leave the club.
Arsenal definitely want to sign Merino, and Mundo Deportivo have shared an exciting update for Gunners supporters.
The report claims that Arsenal are pushing to sign Merino and view him as one of their key objectives in the current transfer window.
It has further been revealed that Arsenal have already set a contract proposal to the ‘spectacular‘ Spanish midfielder and are currently thinking about what would be a good bid to submit to Real Sociedad.

Merino could finally replace a fan favourite at Arsenal
Arsenal have been one of the best sides in Europe over the last two seasons. Arteta has completely revolutionised the club, and his side has been full of incredible players.
The Gunners finished the season just two points behind Manchester City, and many people have had their say on what Arsenal lacked.
The one popular theory is that they really missed Granit Xhaka. The Swiss international was integral in the 2022/23 season, and his departure upset the balance in the side.
Merino could become Arsenal’s new Xhaka next season. The Spaniard can do everything the former Gunners skipper did, and he’s probably a bit better in duels as well.
That could prove to be the difference for Arsenal in the title race, especially with Calafiori all set to strengthen that side of their pitch too.
