Report: Arsenal now pushing to sign 'world-class' midfielder after agreeing £35m Emile Smith Rowe exit

Arsenal are looking to waste no time in dipping into the transfer market after sealing a deal to sell Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham.

However, Arsenal are in no mood for messing about when it comes to bringing a replacement in and they now want to make a quick move.

A number of midfielders have been linked with moves to The Emirates all summer.

But the name that keeps cropping up at the moment is Spanish star, Mikel Merino.

And according to a report from Football Transfers, Arsenal are wanting to press ahead with a deal for Merino now that Smith Rowe’s move has been sorted.

The Gunners want to get a deal done for the Spanish Euro 2024 winner and are hoping to convince Real Sociedad to do business.

The Spanish side, though, are not in a rush to sell their midfielder and it’s going to be down to Arsenal to get the ball rolling and ensure a deal is agreed.

Regarded by Kieran Tierney as a ‘world-class‘ operator in the midfield, Merino is very much seen as someone who could allow Declan Rice to venture further forward.

Merino is also thought to be keen on the move and the report here from FT suggests the Spaniard has made it clear he wants to sign for the Gunners.

Arsenal fans, then, will be hoping for a quick turnaround on this one.
