Report: Arsenal staff are convinced that ‘incredible’ midfielder wants to sign for them this summer

Arsenal are now looking to strike whilst the iron is hot in the summer transfer window with successive signings.

Mikel Arteta has had to remain patient with only young goalkeeper Charlie Setford through the door at the Emirates.

However, Arsenal are now closing in on the signing of Riccardo Calafiori after weeks of negotiations.

Three weeks have now passed since Calafiori agreed a five-year deal to join Arsenal with personal terms not an issue at all.

But it has taken weeks for Arsenal, Bologna and even FC Basel – Calafiori’s former club – to agree on the financial side of the deal.

Calafiori is now set to undergo his Arsenal medical, but the Gunners now think there is another player who has also made the decision to move to north London this summer.

Arsenal convinced midfielder has decided to join them this summer
What do they say about London buses? Arsenal fans have been made to wait until almost August for a breakthrough in their summer window and two could now come along in quick succession.

It has to be said, Arsenal came into the summer not needing to do a huge amount of business having finished just two points off the top.

The Gunners are in a position where perhaps only a few quality additions could be enough to turn the tables in the Premier League title race.

And they are certainly looking to add quality with one of their summer targets seemingly now leaning towards a move to N5.

According to TeamNewsandTix, those at Arsenal are now confident that midfielder Mikel Merino has chosen them as his next club.

The Real Sociedad midfielder is now running into the final 12 months of his contract with the La Liga outfit.

And after an impressive Euro 2024, the former Newcastle United man has plenty of suitors with Atletico Madrid also keen on Merino.

However, it is Barcelona who the Gunners perhaps need to be most wary of over the coming weeks.

Barcelona also want to sign Mikel Merino this summer
Merino’s Euros really did put him on the map for a potential summer switch with the Spaniard seriously impressing.

He may not have been a starter in Luis de la Fuente’s XI, but when he came on he made a real impression with some ‘incredible‘ displays.

But Merino has also been made aware that Barcelona are interested and could offer him an opportunity to remain in Spain.

However, it does seem that the midfielder could well be leaning towards a return to the Premier League as Arsenal look to land yet another impressive acquisition this summer.
