The Gunners’ only signing of the transfer window so far has been to bring David Raya back on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell last season.
However, Arsenal do have plenty of targets in mind, and some exciting moves could be on the horizon.
Nico Williams is a player Arsenal are said to be keen on, but signing the Spaniard is much easier said than done.
Indeed, not only do Arsenal need to bat off interest from Barcelona to win this race, they have to negotiate a serious pay-packet for the Euro 2024 winner.
Nico Williams would command huge wages at Arsenal
According to The Times, Nico Williams would have to become one of Arsenal’s best-paid players if he were to join the Gunners.
The winger is said to already be on a mammoth £170,000-a-week, and he’d want a hefty payrise to make a move to Arsenal.
According to Capology, Arsenal’s current best-paid player is Kai Havertz, on £280,000-a-week, so Arsenal could potentially stretch to give Williams what he wants without destroying their wage structure.
Nico Williams move is possible
This move for Nico Williams would be expensive, but it wouldn’t be impossible.
Indeed, the £50m transfer fee isn’t that eye-watering, and while the wages would be huge, Arsenal could make space in their budget to accommodate.
Gabriel Jesus is being linked with a move away from Arsenal, and he’s on £250k-a-week, so that’s a fair chunk of cash that could be saved.
That’s before you even consider the £240k-a-week that could be saved with the further sales of Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe alongside the transfer fees accrued by potential sales.
Williams would be an expensive addition, but it’s perhaps not as unrealistic a signing as some may think.
