Report: 'Extremely fast' forward prefers signing for Arsenal instead of Liverpool this summer

Arsenal may have an edge over Liverpool in the race to sign a Champions League finalist this summer.

The Gunners and the Reds were both expected to be active in this transfer window, but neither club have made a big signing yet.
Arsenal’s only signing so far has been David Raya, whose loan was turned into a permanent deal. Liverpool, on the other hand, are yet to make a single signing this summer.

Now, if a report is to be believed, the two clubs are going head-to-head to sign a very talented attacker.

Donyell Malen prefers Arsenal over Liverpool
Donyell Malen has been linked with a return to England for a long time now.

The Dutchman was once a part of Arsenal’s academy. He spent two years in North London but didn’t play a single game for their senior side.

Malen then had a hugely successful stint at PSV Eindhoven before moving to German giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021.

Now, Malen’s future is up in the air, and CaughtOffside have revealed that both Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing him this summer.

The versatile forward has entered the final two years of his contract at Dortmund, and the report claims he has a release clause worth €40 million (£33.7m).

It has further been revealed that Malen’s preference between the two clubs right now is a move to Arsenal, which is why the Gunners believe they are ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign him this summer.

Malen is being viewed as a deputy for Bukayo Saka by Arsenal, while Liverpool reportedly see him as a backup for Mohamed Salah.

What Malen has already said about re-signing for Arsenal
For many years, Arsenal fans didn’t like that Malen was sold.

The Dutchman was desperate for first-team football in 2017, but Arsene Wenger did not believe he was ready to make the step up at that point.

Malen left Arsenal then, but the attacker, who was described as an ‘extremely fast’ player by Mario Gotze (Bundesliga.com), still has a soft spot for the Gunners.

He said in February: “I think because I played in England as a youth and then it is a dream to play in the Premier League, then I think that is a beautiful dream.

“I went to Arsenal so yes, them. I want Arsenal, my favourite club. Yes [about returning there]. I played there in my youth, I really wanted to break through there, so yes.”
