Report: Liverpool are in direct contact right now to sign 'one of Europe's best talents'

Liverpool’s summer transfer window has not quite taken off yet following the appointment of new manager Arne Slot.

This summer is going to provide the Dutch manager with the opportunity to assess the squad which he has inherited from Jurgen Klopp.

Barring players who have seen their contracts run their course, Liverpool are yet to sanction any departures this summer and likewise have not seen any arrivals.

Arne Slot‘s side are going into the new campaign having ended Klopp’s reign with a third-placed finish.

And there is room for improvement with the Reds falling away from the title race towards the back end of the campaign.

Contact has now been made, though, for one of Liverpool’s top targets this summer as the Reds look to secure their first signing of the window.

Liverpool in contact over in-demand centre-back
Although Liverpool have not made any player sales of yet, they have waved goodbye to reliable defender Joel Matip.

The Cameroon international has moved on from Merseyside having seen his contract come to an end.

This leaves Liverpool with room to cover this summer when it comes to bringing in new defenders.

Liverpool may have seen Jarell Quansah show his worth last season, but they could be looking to make a real statement signing this summer.

According to GiveMeSport, Liverpool are now in direct contact with Lille over the possibility of securing the services of centre-back Leny Yoro.

Interest from Real Madrid has been widely reported as the Champions League winners look to improve their squad even further after securing the services of Kylian Mbappe.

“Liverpool are serious about Yoro. They’ve been in direct contact with Lille to understand the terms, and they see him, as I would say, the top target in that position and very much a generational talent,” Ben Jacobs told GMS.

“So they’re certainly not going to give up on the Lille centre-back.”

Jacobs also adds that the Ligue 1 side are looking for a fee in the region of £50m to seal the signature of the 18-year-old defender.

Leny Yoro hailed as one of Europe’s top talents
Players like Mbappe have shown that if you’re good enough then you’re old enough and that certainly seems to be the case for Yoro.

The centre-back is only 18-years-old and has already racked up 60 appearances for the French side across all competitions.

And that is shown in his whopping price tag of £50m which the likes of Liverpool and Madrid would have to pay to prise away a player with just one year remaining on his deal.

After all, this is a player who The Athletic‘s European correspondent Sebastian Stafford-Bloor hailed as ‘one of Europe’s best talents’.
