Report: Liverpool have privately been speaking about signing three different players this summer

Liverpool could be set for a busy few weeks in the transfer market after keeping quiet up until now.

The Reds are still yet to bring in the first signing of the Arne Slot era, having been hampered by the summer international tournaments.

However, with both the Copa America and the Euros now over – and Alexis Mac Allister coming home as a champion – Liverpool should have more freedom to make some signings.

Nobody is asking for the Reds to rip up the first-team squad, but one or two tweaks could help Slot to be as prepared as possible for the new season.

Thankfully, it sounds as though discussions with the new head coach, Richard Hughes and the Liverpool owners are still ongoing.

Liverpool discuss three new signings
Although the lack of activity in the market will be a concern for Liverpool fans, perhaps more worrying is the absence of any truly concrete links to players.

That changed a little on Monday, with the news that Liverpool are keen on signing Mohamed Simakan from RB Leipzig.

However, nothing appears to be especially advanced with Simakan and it remains to be seen whether the Reds do push on to sign the Frenchman.

If they don’t, then supporters will be hoping Liverpool have another centre-back lined up. Defence should be the main priority for the Reds this off-season.

According to The Athletic though, centre-back is not the only area of the squad that Liverpool are looking to improve in.

They confirm that the Reds are indeed ‘considering defensive options’ after losing Joel Matip on a free transfer, but are also keeping an eye on two other positions.

Interestingly, signing a new holding midfielder is said to have been discussed, as has the potential of bringing in an ‘attacking wide player’.

Despite private talks over new additions though, Liverpool are reportedly unlikely to be especially busy in terms of incomings. The Reds supposedly see their squad as already being ‘youthful and packed with potential.’

Will Liverpool make any transfer moves?
For many Liverpool fans, their lack of movement in the transfer window will be especially disappointing.

The Reds do have obvious areas they can improve – with centre-back and defensive midfield being the obvious two – and a failure to address that will surely only lead to them coming up short again.

Having said that, you could understand if Liverpool did choose to keep their powder dry this summer.

The squad is big and we still don’t know exactly how Slot and his coaching staff intend to use it. With young players improving and others coming to life in a new system, it may be that Liverpool are fine as they are.

As more Liverpool players return to pre-season training we will start to get a better idea of what Slot is planning. In the meantime, discussions will surely continue, but will we see any action?
