Mikel Arteta‘s side have finally announced the first of their summer signings with youngster Charlie Setford.
But the goalkeeper is not exactly the big name addition which Arsenal fans will have been waiting all these weeks for.
The arrivals could begin to flow in once the Italy international is signed, sealed and delivered, though.
And it seems as if the Gunners have now stolen a march on Chelsea in potentially landing one of their targets this summer.

Arsenal ahead of Chelsea in race to land midfield target
The Gunners have been made to wait this summer to open their account in the summer market but it now looks like they are finding their groove.
Only two points separated Arsenal and Manchester City last season so it may well be a case of quality of quantity this summer.
But the positive years of work being put in by Arteta in north London is now paying off with players keen to join Arsenal over some of their London rivals.
Calafiori had already informed Chelsea that he wanted to join Arsenal over them and it seems lightning is about to strike twice.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Mikel Merino has now snubbed the idea of joining Chelsea in favour of Arsenal.
The Spain international was recently linked with the Blues but it is said that option does not appeal in the same way which Arsenal does.
A move to Stamford Bridge is claimed to not hold the same appeal which it may have done a number of years ago.
After all, it is a straight choice between playing in the Champions League or the Europa Conference League.
Arsenal lead the way to land ‘spectacular’ Mikel Merino
Merino enjoyed a sensational Euro 2024 which saw him pop up with an extra time winner in their quarter final game against Germany.
The midfielder has Premier League experience from his time at Newcastle United where he was even compared to Xabi Alonso by Breaking The Lines analysis.
“He offers balance and defensive solidity, but also threatens from quick counterattacks, due to his spectacular close control, his vision, and his surprise movement from in behind,” the report said.
With only 12 months remaining on his current deal with Real Sociedad, Arsenal could potentially land themselves a real bargain this summer on top of beating the likes of Chelsea to his signature.
