Sky Sports journalist shares what Italian sources are now saying about Riccardo Calafiori joining Arsenal

It’s no secret that Riccardo Calafiori is a wanted man at Arsenal and it looks like things could be reaching a conclusion.

Numerous updates over the weekend have suggested that the Italian defender is indeed going to complete a move to The Emirates.

Everything is pointing in the direction of Calafiori being an Arsenal player.

And according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, the player himself is more than convinced over the move.

Riccardo Calafiori has his heart set on signing for Arsenal
Giving an update for Sky Sports on the situation with Calafiori, Sheth has revealed that sources in Italy claim the defender is now set on joining the Gunners.

“Internal discussions continue over Arsenal’s next steps in their pursuit of Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori,” Sheth said.

“Sky Italy are reporting the player has his heart set on a move to the Gunners and it’s now down to negotiations between the two clubs.

“Personal terms are not expected to be a problem.”

Calafiori has emerged as a strong option for Mikel Arteta and Edu in recent weeks and Italy’s swift exit from the Euros has seen a door open quickly.

The Bologna defender was one of the star players under Thiago Motta last season and is expected to help Arsenal in their quest to find a left-sided defender.

Of course, others could now leave as a result, with the likes of Jakub Kiwior attracting interest in Italy and Oleksandr Zinchenko also on the chopping block.

With Jurrien Timber also back from injury, Arsenal suddenly have a new-look defence for next season.

Whether Calafiori plays instead of Gabriel or simply slots in on the left, remains to be seen.
