The amazing Arsenal record Martinelli has broken

This week marks five years since Gabriel Martinelli first arrived in north London, and our friends at Opta have uncovered an incredible statistic about just how successful his time here has been.
The Brazilian winger has lit up many matches with his incredible pace and sharp shooting, which led to him quickly becoming a favourite amongst Gooners after arriving from Ituano in 2019.

There have been many memorable moments in red and white for Gabi, including scoring a brace on his full debut against Nottingham Forest, dribbling from his own half to score at Chelsea to win our 2019/20 Goal of the Season, and netting a late winner to beat Manchester City last October.

But one thing is common with all of Gabi’s 41 Gunners goals so far - whenever he’s found the net, he’s never finished the game on the losing side.

Those 41 goals have come in 35 different matches in all competitions, of which we have won 30 and drawn the other five. And when you compare those numbers across our 137-year history, no other player comes close to matching Gabi’s feats:

Player Games Scored In W D L

Gabriel Martinelli 35 30 5 0

Lee Dixon 26 20 6 0

Perry Groves 26 24 2 0

Ray Parlour 26 24 2 0

Nicolas Anelka 24 18 6 0

Granit Xhaka 22 18 4 0

Leandro Trossard 18 14 4 0

Tim Coleman 18 14 4 0

Tommy Shanks 18 17 1 0

Anders Limpar 15 13 2 0

David Platt 15 12 3 0

Jack Crayston 15 14 1 0

Peter Simpson 15 11 4 0

Jack Wilshere 13 10 3 0

Kai Havertz 13 13 0 0

Lee Dixon, Perry Groves and Ray Parlour were the previous joint holders of this particular record, all notching up 26 occasions where they had got on the scoresheet without tasting defeat. However, Gabi has raced past them in double-quick time, and could extend his lead at the top further when the 2024/25 kicks off.

Looking further down the list, there are a couple of his Gunners teammates who may have eyes on catching that trio of club icons from the 80s and 90s during the upcoming campaign.

Leandro Trossard has strung together a run of 18 matches without losing after he’s found the net, while Kai Havertz is five behind him after an impressive debut season at Emirates Stadium - the German has won all 13 games in which he’s netted for us so far - the best winning record on the list.

However, our electric Brazilian forward continues to race away at the top of the table, and will be aiming to be our good-luck charm once again when the action gets back underway in August.
