Writing in his column, Charles Watts has been discussing the recent links to Fabian Ruiz.

According to the journalist, the links to Ruiz may not be that concrete, with Watts claiming that Mikel Merino is someone Arsenal are instead prioritising.

Watts shared what he knows about these two rumours.

“There have been links to other midfielders. I’ve seen Fabian Ruiz mentioned recently. That’s not one I’ve heard anything on myself yet, but he is a fine player of course.”

“I still think Merino is the main target though and he would be a fine addition. He would add versatility, which is so important to any signing who comes in under Mikel Arteta.”

Arsenal appear to be prioritising Merino over Fabian Ruiz, and this could end up being a mistake.

Ruiz was the superior player at Euro 2024, and there’s reason to believe he’d be a better fit for Arsenal.

Let’s not forget, Mikel Merino has already been in the Premier League once where he struggled for form with Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Fabian Ruiz has been brilliant for both PSG and Napoli in recent years, and his showings at the Euros suggested he’d be great in England too.
