The Gunners have already re-signed David Raya on a permanent deal, and now, the first new body through the door this summer is imminent.
Indeed, Riccardo Calafiori is said to be increasingly close to joining Arsenal this summer, and according to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1TV, this deal is incredibly close.
Kay says that the deal to sign Calafiori is virtually done at this point, claiming that there’s only a small hurdle that needs clearing before a deal can be announced.
Riccardo Calafiori has virtually signed for Arsenal
Kay spoke about the defender and how close he is to joining the north London club.
“Yeah again it’s very similar to the Zirkzee one and very similar to the De Ligt one. This one is virtually done. Personal terms are agreed, a fee is agreed, around about £50m, but you know what Arsenal are like, they love a bit of a structure don’t they?” Kay said.
“When they pay their fees there always seems to be a problem around the structure of their deals.”
“That’s all it is, the deal is literally virtually done. Calafiori doesn’t want to go anywhere else apart from Arsenal. This one has come from out of the blue from nowhere.”
Calafiori a great start
The signing of Riccardo Calafiori will represent a great start to the summer transfer window, but Arsenal can’t rest on their laurels here.
Indeed, Mikel Arteta’s side still need more additions with a new striker and a new midfielder said to be big priorities.
Luckily, Arsenal still have plenty of time to address those issues, and given their transfer business in recent years, you’d back Arteta and Edu to get this window right and sign the players they need to in order to push on and win the league next term.
