The 24-year-old enjoyed a hugely-impressive tournament for the Three Lions, starting six of the seven games and earning an assist in the round of 16 victory over Slovakia. He missed the quarter-final against Switzerland due to suspension, as Southgate’s side won that contest via a penalty shootout.
Guehi is under contract at Selhurst Park until the summer of 2026, having arrived at the London club in 2021. He has played 111 times for the Eagles, after coming through the Chelsea academy but never made a senior appearance for the club. He had a loan spell at Swansea City before sealing a permanent move to Palace.
Now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in the player. The Reds appear to be frontrunners as things stand as they seek to bolster their centre-back options following Joel Matip’s departure and with Virgil van Dijk entering the final year of his contract.
Speaking on his Playback Live Show, Romano said: "Marc Guehi has been linked with Liverpool. I can tell you that Liverpool have been scouting the player for a long time. He's a player they like, for sure. But at the moment, I can tell you that Liverpool are negotiating for Marc Guehi, because at the moment, the situation is quiet around him. Obviously there is the Euros, so after the Euros, we will see the appreciation of Liverpool for the player.
"I can confirm to you, but not only Liverpool - there are also other clubs, for example Arsenal and many others who appreciate the player. But in terms of the bid, in terms of the negotiations, it is a different story."
The Gunners have William Saliba, 23, and Gabriel, 26, as their first-choice centre-back pairing. Guehi would undoubtedly provide strong competition for the duo, but it remains to be seen if he’d be able to forge a consistent place in the starting XI.
Prior to his quarter-final suspension, Guehi was highly praised by Gareth Southgate, who said: “He’s been exceptional. We obviously lose him now for the next game, but he’s a young defender that we’ve had enormous belief in and he’s justified that with his performances in this tournament.”
