‘A no-brainer’ - Worrying Anthony Gordon claims as Newcastle United face Liverpool battle

Gabby Agbonlahor has recommended Anthony Gordon to ditch Newcastle United for “boyhood club” Liverpool.

Despite coming through Everton’s youth ranks, the 23-year-old is a rumoured Red and has been linked with a potential £100million move. The Daily Mail reported earlier this summer that, during the club’s awkward FFP/PSR scramble on June 30, selling Gordon was considered.

That would have been the “nuclear” option and, as it happened, Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson were offloaded for a combined £68million. But the saga offered Liverpool confidence that a deal could be done.

Toon CEO Darren Eales insisted Gordon - as well as Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes - were going nowhere when grilled by the media last month. However, former England and Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor is adamant the winger should leave Tyneside.

"I did some research on this and I think he's a Liverpool fan, isn't he?" Agbonlahor told AceOdds. "So, he's a Liverpool fan, he played for Everton, he's gone to Newcastle. I'm sorry, if you're a Liverpool fan and they come in for you, they win the Champions League, they're a more stable club.

"New manager, new ideas, I think Anthony Gordon jumps at it. He didn't think twice before leaving Everton. He sort of forced that move through to Newcastle, if I remember. The way Newcastle are at the moment, if I'm him I'm saying, 'Goodbye, let me go to Liverpool, they're my boyhood club'.

"He's a Scouser, he can go back home, it's a no-brainer, it's the club he supports. I would go to Liverpool if I were Anthony Gordon, 100 per cent, because this offer might not come again."
