Aaron Ramsdale transfer twist emerges after Arsenal 'rejected' offer

Southampton are reportedly readying an offer to take Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on a season-long loan.
Ramsdale, 26, is a goalkeeper the newly promoted Premier League club are seemingly tracking. They are not alone, though, with Ajax reputedly having already seen an approach turned down by the Gunners earlier this month.

That follows an enquiry from a bottom-half Premier League team being rejected by Arsenal last year. More recently, Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to have submitted a loan offer, which included an option to buy the England international.

All three are understood to have expressed interest in the goalkeeper. However, the club insists that only a permanent move will be acceptable, as Ramsdale would require replacing this summer.

Despite that, Sky Sports claims Southampton are preparing to become the third club to propose a loan move during the final month of the transfer window. An offer with an obligation to buy the goalkeeper could conceivably be a compromise, but barring a significant loan fee, that would not aid Arsenal in adding a backup goalkeeper.

A swap with Wolves for Dan Bentley would seemingly satisfy that need, but after submitting a £50,000 bid last month, the Gunners have yet to make an improved offer. Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia is the latest name linked.

However, it would cost £25.7million to pay the player's release clause immediately. That would likely only be possible if Arsenal recouped a similar fee for Ramsdale.

Southampton, though, seemingly have several options after reputedly registering their interest in Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, according to the Daily Echo, who could be available for around

£10million. As for Ajax, De Telegraaf now reports they are discussing with fellow Dutch club Heerenveen, who Robin van Persie manages, over swapping their goalkeeper Jay Gorter for former Netherlands international Andries Noppert.
