Arsenal and Man Utd target Ivan Toney has 'extortionate wage demands' after £103m offer

Manchester United and Arsenal target Ivan Toney is reportedly demanding a huge sum of money to move to Saudi Arabia. The England international would be in for a mammoth pay rise if he decides to depart Brentford for the riches of the Saudi Pro League - and wants wages that would make him the third-highest player in the Premier League, only behind Manchester City's duo of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.
The 28-year-old was subject to a £35million bid from Al-Ahli who reportedly offered the striker a three-year deal with a base salary of almost €20m (£17m) as well as a €3m (£2.5m) sign-on bonus which would be paid in two installments, according to GiveMeSport. Toney reportedly demanded a salary of around €22m (£18.7m) with that figure only surpassed by Haaland (£19.5m) and De Bruyne (£20.8m) in the English top-flight.

While the bid was swiftly rejected, on top of the win and goal bonuses included in Toney's contract, the Premier League ace would also be given an accommodation allowance and other lucrative add-ons that would see him bag a colossal figure of €120m (£103m) should he remain an Al-Ahli player for the entirety of the contract which equates to €750k (£639k) a week - though his actual base salary would be much lower.

Despite his hefty wage request, it's likely Toney would settle for a lower wage in a bid to remain in Europe with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United interested in acquiring his services. Toney's uncertain future with the west London club has only heated up as the transfer window has gone on with his omission from Brentford's squad in their opening league fixture in what was a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday (August 18) coming on the back of the rejected bid from the Saudi side.

Following the game, Bees boss Thomas Frank discussed the transfer situation surrounding Toney as he said: "A lot of things are going on with Ivan," when speaking to Sky Sports. "There is some transfer interest and so we decided not to involve him in the squad, I can't give too much away... there is interest, but a deal is not closed.

"Ivan is a top player; he's been fantastic for us over four years but we also showed, last year especially, that we can win without him." Despite initially placing an £80m price tag for Toney's services last summer, his eight-month ban for breaches of betting regulations as well as his contract running out next summer has forced the club to settle for £50m.

Should he remain with Brentford upon the end of the transfer window, Toney can talk to clubs in January 2025 and agree a pre-contract agreement. Erik ten Hag's side would hope to secure Toney's signature this month should they remain interested in him due to their lack of options in the forward position with Rasmus Hojlund out for six weeks with injury.

Arsenal are yet to sign a No 9 despite continuous links to one, with Toney, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres their main options. Mikel Arteta started the first day of the season - a comfortable 2-0 win over Wolves - with Kai Havertz up front as he did for the majority of last season, and the German made the perfect start to the new season, scoring the opener before teeing up Bukayo Saka.
