The Real Sociedad midfielder has been of firm interest to the Gunners over the past month, though direct talks only started recently. Merino has already accepted a move to Emirates Stadium with a final agreement just below £30million edging closer.
Further departures are also expected to take place with Emile Smith Rowe, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares and now Sagoe Jr having both permanent and temporary exits confirmed. The 20-year-old attacker spent six months on loan at Swansea City last season after making his senior debut against Brentford in the Carabao Cup.
Upon sealing a move to Wales, the club confirmed Sagoe Jr also signed a new contract until 2027 after first penning pro terms two years ago. With his move confirmed and Arsenal hopeful an announcement for Merino's arrival will be next, it is unclear if more business will be completed, especially following Arteta's recent admission.
Asked in his press conference about more departures and a striker potentially being signed, he said: "While the market is open things can happen. That’s always a possibility. We have great strikers already, we have a great attacking line and I’m really pleased with it."
However, unique market opportunities could see Arsenal strike with two or three new arrivals, including Merino, potentially still to join, as per TNATS (via Patreon). It is also claimed that if the right players are brought in, Fabio Vieira could depart on loan.
Alternatives to the Spain international include PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko with Brighton's Simon Adingra another name linked to an Emirates Stadium switch.
