Arsenal dealt huge transfer blow as £40m deal hands Mikel Arteta new headache

Arsenal's hopes of selling Eddie Nketiah have taken a further hit after it emerged Bournemouth have agreed a deal to sign Porto striker, Evanilson.

Bournemouth were one of the Premier League clubs pursuing a deal for Nketiah, along with Crystal Palace, though appear to have now turned their attention elsewhere. A similar scenario also played out with Marseille, who were keen but ended up recruiting Elye Wahi.

A latest report by Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Cherries have struck an agreement worth €47m (£40m) for Evanilson, who will serve as a Dominic Solanke replacement. It is stated a medical has already been booked and that the player will soon travel to England ahead of his transfer.

This news will not be welcomed by Arsenal, who have now seemingly seen another potential bidder for Nketiah abruptly exit the running. Football.london understands Palace are long-term admirers of the Arsenal attacker, having previously attempted to register interest.

Mikel Arteta has remained tight-lipped over the future of the 25-year-old, refusing to provide much insight over what could happen, though recently indicated he would be happy to keep Nketiah.

"All the players that are here, that’s the biggest chance that they’ll stay with us," he said after Sunday's 2-0 win over Lyon in the Emirates Cup. "That’s why they're here."

Arsenal, however, will not stand in Nketiah's way if a suitable offer comes in. The Gunners are attempting to adopt a sustainable approach to transfers this summer. Having already invested £27million in David Raya and at least £33.7million in Riccardo Calafiori, there has already been significant expense.

Nketiah made a total of 37 first-team appearances last season, scoring six times, though was restricted to only ten Premier League starts. The London-born star is under contract until 2027, having signed a new deal during the summer of 2022.
