Toney, who scored just four goals in 17 appearances in the Premier League last season after returning from his eight-month betting ban, has seen his future remain uncertain over the summer. The England international has one year left on his contract and has been subject to interest from Saudi Arabia this week.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal are among the Premier League clubs that have been tipped to get a deal over the line for Toney. And due to the speculation surrounding his future, Frank has decided not to pick his talisman against Palace at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Frank said: "There’s a lot of things going on with Ivan, there’s some transfer interest. Because of all that, we decided not to involve him in the squad.
"It's the classic one - I couldn't give too much the day before. He's been a fantastic player for us, but we showed last year especially that we can deal without him.
When asked if this is the end of Ivan Toney in a Brentford shirt, he added: "Who knows? There's interest, but there's nothing close."
Toney has less than one year left on his Brentford contract, having not signed fresh terms since his move from Peterborough in 2020, and his future has become uncertain over the past couple of months.
Despite this, Toney featured off the bench in their final pre-season friendly against Wolfsburg last Friday. He had trained in the build-up to the clash against Palace but won't feature for the Bees.
