Arsenal have now withdrawn from the race for 'world class' player who wanted to play under Arteta - journalist

Arsenal have not exactly lit the summer transfer window alight and they are now passing up on a player who’d be open to joining them.

Mikel Arteta finally got his man over the line a couple of weeks ago when Arsenal secured the signing of Riccardo Calafiori.

However, it has been a waiting game for the Gunners who are now left working on their next potential signings.

It is looking more and more likely that player to next ink a deal in north London could be Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino.

But there is one player who now looks as if he will not be joining Arsenal despite his desire to play under Arteta.

Arsenal withdraw from the race to sign new forward
Arsenal are now prepared to make their move for Merino this summer after Liverpool have swooped in to sign one of his teammates.

Liverpool are now showing a real interest in Martin Zubimendi with the Gunners fearing it could effect their deal for Merino.

Having signed Calafiori and looking to seal Merino, Arsenal will then be left potentially looking to address their attacking options.

But Arteta’s side have now moved on from a player who could certainly improve their front line despite his ambition of playing for the Gunners.

According to Radio Capri, Arsenal have now pulled out of the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer.

“He reappears every now and then, but the situation is always the same: PSG doesn’t go beyond €70 million and hasn’t sold Kolo Muani yet,” said journalist Ciro Troise.

“While Chelsea and Arsenal have withdrawn.”

Arsenal could have upgraded by signing Victor Osimhen
By now, the struggles of Gabriel Jesus in an Arsenal shirt will be all too familiar for the fans in north London.

Jesus was only able to provide a return of four goals in the Premier League which will sting considering Arsenal lost the league by just two points.

By adding a player like Osimhen, Arsenal would has secured themselves a ‘world class‘ striker who certainly could have made the difference.

Even in what was a quieter season for Osimhen, the Nigeria international provided Napoli with 15 goals and four assists in Serie A last term.

These numbers are what could determine whether Arsenal win the title over the next nine months.

On top of it all, Osimhen had decided he would have liked to join Arsenal this summer after receiving interest from Chelsea.
