Arsenal may now have a big transfer issue before the end of August - opinion

Although Arsenal supporters will be more than happy to have Riccardo Calafiori on board, it’s otherwise been a frustrating summer thus far.

Before beating Lyon in the Emirates Cup final on Sunday, news emerged that Edu had told Arsenal fans to remain patient, promising that they won’t be disappointed by the end of August.
However, with less than three weeks to go, it’s currently hard to imagine who Arsenal will recruit beyond Mikel Merino.

Arsenal are close to signing Merino, but otherwise their reported interest in the likes of Benjamin Sesko at the start of the summer, or Nico Williams last month, have all hit dead ends.

However, news emerging from both France and England today could be about to spell disappointment for Arsenal fans.

In order to sign a new forward, it now seems as if Arsenal need to sell Eddie Nketiah.

And in that regard, Marseille’s interest in Nketiah was Arsenal’s best hope of a sale.

Marseille and Bournemouth now pursuing Eddie Nketiah alternatives
As well as Marseille, TBR Football recently shared that Bournemouth are considering a move for Nketiah, who is free to leave Arsenal this summer.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano has just confirmed that Marseille are on the verge of completing a deal for Elye Wahi, who scored against Arsenal in the Champions League.

The journalist then declared that Marseille were no longer considering a move for Nketiah at all, ending their negotiations with the Gunners.

As mentioned, Arsenal need to free up funds and a space in their squad before they make a new addition.

Arsenal are still willing to sell four players in total before the window slams shut at the end of August.

However, in terms of interest from Bournemouth for Nketiah, it seems as if there could be more frustration for Arsenal too.

Fabrizio Romano shared earlier today that Bournemouth are pushing to sign FC Porto striker Evanilson as their Dominic Solanke replacement, another player Arsenal faced in Europe.

And right now it seems as if Nketiah is most likely to remain at the Emirates – a player who Arteta won’t force out of the door.
