Arsenal set to sell 'outstanding' player for low fee but insert clause which could make them millions - journalist

Having been criticised for the fees they’ve recouped for players in past years, it would appear that Edu and Arsenal are attempting to dig their feet in this summer.
This time last year, many Arsenal fans felt as if both Granit Xhaka and Folarin Balogun were sold too cheaply.

Xhaka was evidently hitting his prime and Balogun had just come off the back of an incredible season of scoring – yet neither came close to breaking Arsenal’s record sale.

That being said, Arsenal fared much better when selling Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham this summer, achieving a respectable fee.

And Eddie Nketiah is set to leave Arsenal for a sizable sum too, a big win for the club considering he’s earning high wages in north London too.

And although Charlie Patino isn’t quite at the same level as the names mentioned, it appears as if Arsenal are being clever with his departure too.

Arsenal could still earn good money from Charlie Patino departure despite £1m fee
It’s been widely reported that Patino has agreed to leave Arsenal to start a new adventure with Deportivo La Coruna.

There were high hopes for the ‘outstanding’ midfielder when he was a gem of the Hale End academy, but his path hasn’t led him to the Arsenal first team, and he will instead head to Spain.

That being said, when providing a comprehensive summary of Patino’s departure, journalist Charles Watts included an important detail on a sell-on clause added into the deal.

Watts shared: “One key thing is Arsenal have negotiated a significant sell-on clause for Patino, so although they are not getting much for him now, if he does go on to be a success and earns himself a decent move in the next few years, they will pocket a nice chunk of cash at some point down the line.

“There has long been interest from Spain in Patino. He has that all important Spanish passport because of his father and so there have been plenty of clubs looking at him.

“I know that Villarreal were interested at one time, as were Mallorca. But Patino’s father, Jules, is a Deportivo fan so this is an exciting move for him.”

Ayden Heaven in the next Arsenal youngster who needs a chance
Even though Patino’s time at Arsenal has now reached an amicable ending, the Gunners do need to avoid a repeat of the situation.

Patino’s potential seemed to fizzle out as a result of the midfielder not being afforded sufficient chances with the first team.

Credit to Arteta, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly appear as if they will now get those chances.

And after Ayden Heaven featured in Arsenal training before this weekend’s game with Aston Villa, the defender also requires similar treatment.

Dortmund want to sign Heaven for a reason, a top young talent who Arsenal need to protect and develop.
