The Gunners have been linked with almost every striker in Europe over the past few months, but, as of yet, nothing has materialised.
Why haven’t Arsenal gone after a striker? According to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1 TV, the Gunners’ transfer plans have changed.
Indeed, according to the journalist, Arsenal’s plans have changed this summer, stating that the Gunners’ stance on signing a new striker has switched because of Kai Havertz’s great form in 2024.
Why Arsenal’s transfer plans have changed
Kay shared what he knows about the Gunners’ stance on signing a new striker.
“I’m pretty sure you will see a couple more signings before the end of the window, but Arsenal changed their mind,” Kay said.
“They had a plan around about January for the summer, the way they wanted to go and the targets they wanted, but all of that changed because of the form of Kai Havertz, what he was doing, the way he was scoring goals and he was doing thinks Mikel Arteta didn’t expect him to do.”

Arsenal can’t put all their eggs in the Kai Havertz basket
Arsenal have changed their transfer plans based on the idea that Kai Havertz will keep this level of form up, and that may not be a good idea.
Indeed, while Havertz has been brilliant for the past six months, that may just be one purple patch in what has been a prolonged period of underperformance.
If the £65m man reverts back to the form we saw during his time at Chelsea or during his first six months at Arsenal, the Gunners will seriously struggle.
Relying on Havertz off the back of six months’ worth of solid performances is a serious risk, especially when you consider how poorly he has played for most of the last five years.
