Emi Martinez delivers Aaron Ramsdale transfer verdict and names club he should join

Emiliano Martinez believes Aaron Ramsdale should leave Arsenal for Wolves, with the Aston Villa goalkeeper also aiming a dig at his former club.
Martinez spent ten years at Arsenal, largely being sent out on loan, before leaving for Villa in 2020 after Mikel Arteta decided to stick with Bernd Leno as his first-choice goalkeeper. Martinez has gone on to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world and won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.

Arsenal, meanwhile, replaced Leno with Ramsdale in 2021 and have since brought in David Raya to become their new No. 1. Ramsdale made just six Premier League appearances last season as a result of Raya's arrival and he is expected to leave the club this summer.

However, Martinez does not believe the England international is in the same situation he was when he left Arsenal for Villa. "I think he's in a different position to me… he signed for £32m, he was the No. 1 for Arsenal - I never had a chance like that," Martinez said.

"When you play every game in the Premier League and then you drop to the bench with the quality that Aaron has… I think he should find a place to play where he feels loved. I heard he might go to Wolves, which I think could be a good move for him.

"He is a player that England needs in their goalkeeping area. He still has a great future." Reflecting on his own departure from Arsenal, the 31-year-old added: "I wanted to prove I could do it to myself more than anyone.

"I wanted to be an international player, play every Premier League game. I knew the history of Aston Villa, obviously not as much as I know now. When I started playing here I fell in love with the crowd, with the fans.

Emiliano Martinez has given his thoughts on Ramsdale's future
"My kids were born here. You need to be where you feel happy and I feel happy here. There is a lot of improvement [to be had]. We conceded a lot of goals, it's something we need to reduce, it's something I'm trying to work on with Javi Garcia (goalkeeping coach) and Unai Emery.

"If we can reduce the amount of goals we are conceding, I think we have got more chance of being in the top four again. It is something that the fans really want. Last year, we had the experience of a semi-final of a European competition.

"Now it is going to be harder. If we manage to keep everyone fit then we can go [deep]. If we have four, five, six injuries, then we are going to be struggling. In the meantime, with everyone fit, I believe that we can compete with anyone."
