‘Great’: Mikel Arteta says player he released at Arsenal was simply ‘unbelievable’

Mikel Arteta has seen some incredible midfield players pass through Arsenal during his time in north London.

Arteta has than 10 years, on and off, in north London as both a player and a manager, and during that time, he’s seen some incredible midfield players.

Speaking on Men in Blazers, Mikel Arteta has been asked about the best midfielders he has has seen at Arsenal, and he named three players he used to play with that he thought were brilliant.

Arteta reserved special praise for both Santi Cazorla and Thomas Rosicky, and, interestingly, he also spoke highly of Mesut Ozil, despite the fact the Spaniard released Ozil a couple of years ago.

Mikel Arteta praises Mesut Ozil
Arteta named Ozil among the unbelievable midfielders he played alongside.

“I had the privilege of playing with some great ones and we have some great ones here, some of them have been unbelievable. I remember, not to mention one of my own players, Santi, Rosicky and Mesut, they had the ability to create those moments.”

Mesut Ozil was amazing
Regardless of how his time at Arsenal ended, it has to be said that Mesut Ozil was an amazing player at his best.

The German was a playmaking machine. He was one of the most prolific assisters the Premier League has ever seen, and he was a joy to watch.

There’s a reason he was a World Cup winner, Ozil was, quite simply, one of the best players in the world when he was at his best.

Sadly, those last few years at Arsenal turned sour. After he signed his final contract his performances waned, and, in the end, he was frozen out of Mikel Arteta’s team and eventually released.

Ozil had a bitter end to his time at Arsenal, but he was still a brilliant player for the Gunners.
