'Here we go' - Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool transfer deal to be sealed in next 24 hrs, medical today

The 22-year-old centre-back was heavily linked with a move away from Anfield throughout the summer, but no club was willing to meet Liverpool’s asking price for the player.

The Reds defender was linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen and Brentford, and eventually, he decided to move to the Premier League club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have agreed a deal worth in the region of £25 million.

The two clubs are finalising the deal at the moment, and the player is set for medical tests later today. Romano adds that the deal is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours.

The transfer guru wrote on X: “Sepp van den Berg has decided to go to Brenford as he accepted their proposal, here we go!

“Liverpool and Brentford finalising deal for £25m package while player set for medical tests later today. Deal to be sealed in the next 24 hours”

According to BBC journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Van den Berg is currently at the training ground ahead of his final agreement.

Genius of Michel Edwards working again at Liverpool
Van den Berg joined Liverpool in 2019 and has managed only four senior appearances for the club.

Last season, he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Mainz 05, where he managed 35 appearances for the German outfit.

Michael Edwards has a reputation for selling players at a high price, and he has done that again this summer.

The Reds allowed Fabio Carvalho to join Brentford in a £27.5 million deal earlier this month, while they have allowed Bobby Clark to join Austrian side RB Salzburg on a terrific deal.

We see a similar pattern here. Edwards made sure that the player wouldn’t be sold for anything less than their asking price, and the player will be relieved that he’ll finally get to move away from Anfield to play regular games.

Arne Slot has enough depth at the back, and Van den Berg would have struggled for regular games this season. The deal will suit all parties involved.

What remains to be seen here is whether Liverpool manage to keep hold of Joe Gomez or sell him at a high price.

The England defender has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, and the Reds probably won’t stand in his way if they receive a good offer.
