‘I know for a fact’: Journalist says Arsenal were offered ‘world class’ player for just £55m

Arsenal have been searching for a new striker for quite some time now as they look to push Manchester City in the Premier League.
Arsenal have been on the hunt for a new number nine for around 18 months at this point, and one player who has consistently been linked with a move to the Gunners is Ivan Toney.

The Brentford striker has been linked with Arsenal for such a long time, and according to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1 TV, Toney was actually offered to Arsenal earlier this year for a reasonable price.

Indeed, the journalist says that while Toney was being touted as a £100m player at one point, Arsenal were actually offered the chance to sign him for just £55m in January.

Kay shared what he knows about the striker and Arsenal’s chance to sign him.

“There’s not a bidding war. He was never a £100m player. That was a joke. Nobody was ever going to pay that,” Kay said.

“I think they made a mistake doing that. I know for a fact that in January they offered him to Arsenal for £55m, but for some reason, Arsenal didn’t want to know. I was told they weren’t that bothered in him, not even at £55m.”

Ivan Toney for £55m would’ve been worth it
Arsenal may have made the wrong decision when passing up on signing Ivan Toney in January.

£55m for a player who has proven he’s capable of scoring 20 goals in a Premier League season is a snip, and perhaps if they’d signed Toney in the winter, they would’ve won the title.

Let’s not forget, Arsenal finished just two points behind Manchester City last season, and maybe if they had a more proven finisher leading their line, they would’ve been able to make up that gap.

Arsenal still need a striker, and perhaps Toney is someone they should revisit before the end of the summer transfer window.
