'I think': Gary Neville predicts whether Arsenal will win the Premier League title this season

Gary Neville believes Arsenal have what it takes to win the Premier League title this season as they aim to usurp Manchester City at the summit.

The Gunners are coming on the back of successive second-place finishes, losing out to Pep Guardiola’s side by just two points in the 2023-24 campaign.

Manchester City are looking to make it five Premier League titles on the bounce, but Arsenal will fancy their chances, having signed Riccardo Calafiori while also retaining their core group of players.

And Neville believes Arsenal could finally end Man City’s stranglehold on the Premier League crown since 2021 this time around.

Neville believes Arsenal are on the rise under Arteta despite falling desperately short of domestic kingship over the last couple of seasons.

While the Manchester United icon acknowledged Man City as one of the greatest sides in Premier League history, he believes Arsenal will finally cross the line this season to get their hands on the trophy.

“I went with Arsenal and I think they are on an upward trajectory. They’re up against one of the great sides this league has ever produced in Manchester City and Pep Guardiola,” Neville said.

“It’s going to be tough but I feel like they’ve got stability in the team and the manager. You can write off Man City but I’m gonna say Arsenal as they were so close last night, so they might be able to go that extra step this time.”

What Jamie Carragher thinks of Arsenal’s title hopes

Jamie Carragher, on the other hand, was unable to look past Man City, who he believes will make it five Premier League titles on the bounce.

“Pep Guardiola – no matter what league he’s at, more often than not he wins the title,” Carragher said.

“It’s been tough on Arsenal considering how close they’ve come out the last couple of seasons but this Man City side are a very difficult one to crack.”

However, Carragher says he’d like to see Arsenal – or another team – end Man City’s era of dominance.

“Most neutrals would hope there’s a different winner and I’d probably say the same as you don’t want the same team winning year after year,” he added. “But you have to tip your hat off to Man City, the job Guardiola has done and the team they’ve got. They are still the team to beat.”

What Arsenal and Manchester City have done in the transfer market so far
The Gunners have thus far been unable to add to their squad after signing Calafiori from Bologna earlier this summer but continue to scour the market for potential reinforcements.

Mikel Merino is in talks to sign for Arsenal from Real Sociedad and it remains to be seen if they agree a deal for him before the transfer window slams shut.

Emile Smith Rowe has been a notable outgoing, with the midfielder joining Fulham to get regular game time under his belt.

Arsenal also want to offload Eddie Nketiah before deadline day and his departure could force them to dip into the market for an attacker.

As for Manchester City, Savinho has been their only addition so far, with the Brazilian joining the club for a fee believed to be in the region of £30.8m from Ligue 1 club Troyes.

Julian Alvarez’s move to Atletico Madrid has freed up a spot in the team and with Cityzens now boasting a large kitty from his sale, further reinforcements have not been ruled out completely.

Bruno Guimaraes has been linked with a move to Manchester City, but Newcastle United are unlikely to part with one of their key players so late in the window, making the deal a difficult one to pull off.

Regardless of what happens between now and the end of the transfer window, both Arsenal and Man City boast strong squads capable of competing for the Premier League title once again.
