I'm really excited by Liverpool's Federico Chiesa signing and you can see his pedigree

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp says he is "really excited" by the signing of Federico Chiesa. The Reds completed a reported £13m transfer earlier this week joining from Serie A side Juventus signing a long-term deal.

Arne Slot now has a plethora of options in attacking areas of the pitch, with Chiesa joining Mo Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. Redknapp believes the signing of the 26-year-old forward represents a great deal for the club despite the lack of incoming transfers overall this summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “I’m delighted with this bit of business. It’s a difficult one because he’s had a lot of injuries but I think back to the Euros when they won it - Italy. I’m filming A League Of Their Own and I was talking to Jorginho about him.

"He was on the show a couple of days ago and he said from a Liverpool fan’s perspective, he said ‘he carried our Italian side for so long. He was amazing. He’s obviously had injuries, if Liverpool can get him back to fitness and manage his minutes carefully, they’ve got an absolute bargain and a star.'

"He’s got amazing pace and just gives you another great option, they’ve already got Salah, Diaz, Nunez, Jota - they’ve got lots of players in that area that can change the game. You’re just adding another one and I’m really excited about this piece of business.

"I think it’s smart. It’s not going to cost you too much money. You can see already on his social media that he’s delighted to come to the club.

"All the fans are dying for someone to come in and fill that Rodri role. We all know Rodri is a unicorn, you can’t find people like him they’re just so difficult to find.

"Gravenberch has been really good in these other games. What they’re going to do now is just give themselves options off the bench, or starting that are going to be so good from a goal scoring and assist point of view. I’m really excited by this signing.”
