'I'm sure': Journalist provides exciting Liverpool transfer update after Federico Chiesa signing

Liverpool announced the capture of Federico Chiesa on a four-year deal earlier today.

The Italy international became the second signing of the Arne Slot era, with Giorgi Mamardashvili agreeing to deal in principle to join the club in 2025.

The Reds endured a quiet start to their summer dealings but in recent weeks, they’ve stepped on the pedal to try and cover all bases.

Chiesa’s arrival has bolstered their attacking options, but there are other areas of the pitch that need addressing.

And now, with just over a day left for the transfer window to slam shut, sources close to Liverpool believe they aren’t quite done yet.

According to Lewis Steele, the Reds had a recruitment meeting on Monday before moving quickly to wrap up a deal for Chiesa.

Steele believes the Italy international wasn’t the only player discussed during those talks, adding that Liverpool would like to make another signing or two if time permits.

He said: “Are Liverpool done? They are trying to do more and want to do more but they are running out of time. The clock is ticking.

“They had a recruitment meeting on Monday and I’m sure Federico Chiesa wasn’t the only one mentioned – they’d love to do at least one more.”

What do Liverpool need in the transfer market?
Chiesa is certainly a fantastic player for that price and his arrival adds some much-needed cover for Mohamed Salah on the right flank.

Steve Nicol feels Chiesa’s signing was a ‘no-brainer’ for Liverpool, but they need a lot more than the Italian to compete on all fronts.

Midfielder reinforcements were a priority heading into the summer and the Reds have thus far been unable to bring one through the door.

After Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Liverpool, Slot has opted to play Ryan Gravenberch as a number six, which is a gamble in the long run despite his recent performances.

The Reds desperately need another quality midfield option but face a race against time to find one ahead of the transfer deadline.
