Jamie Carragher tells Liverpool to be 'at the front of the queue' for Newcastle ace

Jamie Carragher has told Liverpool to be at the front of the queue to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon after the Reds missed out on a deal to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The Spanish international turned down a move to Anfield after a huge effort from the La Liga side to keep him this summer.

The Reds legend wants to see his former side go all out to try and sign the Magpies ace this summer, having been linked with a move earlier this summer. Liverpool were reportedly offered the services of the England international as Newcastle scrambled to pass the Premier League's PSR deadline at the end of June.

Reports claim the Reds had agreed a fee with Newcastle United for Gordon, with Joe Gomez set to head the other way to St. James' Park before the Magpies pulled the plug.

“Anthony Gordon would be a good signing for any team, he’s been a great signing for Newcastle," Carragher said on behalf of Sky Sports. "I cannot believe he didn’t get more minutes than he did at EURO 2024, I thought we were crying out for pace in the attack, and he adds that.
