Jayden Danns transfer stance as Liverpool striker suffers cruel injury blow

Jayden Danns won’t be leaving Liverpool on loan this summer as he continues to suffer with a back injury. The striker enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Reds last year, making five appearances, scoring two goals and coming on in the League Cup final win over Chelsea.

An injury-crisis during the winter months saw him fast-tracked by Jurgen Klopp after impressing at youth level.

He would finish the season with 24 goals from 29 appearances across all age levels, and was rewarded with a new contract in March.

Such form had seen the 18-year-old attract loan interest and he had been linked with a temporary move to Championship side Plymouth Argyle, with the striker represented by the same agency as new Pilgrims manager Wayne Rooney.

However, the ECHO understands that an ongoing back issue has scuppered any chance of Danns leaving Liverpool on loan this summer. While he was pictured with the Reds first team at the start of pre-season, he missed the tour to the United States because of the injury.

It’s understood that the club aren’t wanting to put a time-frame on the teenager’s return as they support him in his recovery and he continues his rehabilitation at the AXA Training Centre.

A decision on a potential loan exit in January will be made when he is back fit, depending on how the forward recovers first.

Danns was previously troubled by Osgood-Schlatter's disease and missed roughly eight months of action at Under-16s level as a result. Undergoing a drastic growth spurt, it causes pain in the knee for growing teens.

His latest setback is a tough blow for the young forward, after already being denied the opportunity to impress new head coach Arne Slot this summer after an electric breakthrough campaign last year.
