Kingsley Coman could grab iconic Arsenal shirt number if he completes deadline day transfer

Kingsley Coman will not be able to grab his dream shirt number if he signs for Arsenal on deadline day. However, the Bayern Munich forward might have his eye on an iconic alternative instead.

Emerging reports from The Daily Mail claim Edu and key figures upstairs at the Emirates Stadium are considering Coman as a last-gasp signing before the transfer window closes. Arsenal and their Premier League rivals have until 11pm on Friday night to finalise incomings and outgoings this summer.

David Raya, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal, Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino have been snapped-up already from Brentford, Bologna and Real Sociedad respectively. But is there one last move in the offing?

Coman to Arsenal has been a constant whisper this summer. The 28-year-old even touched down in north London this month, although that was to take part in a pre-season friendly with Arsenal's rivals Tottenham.

The forward is tipped to leave Bayern amid interest from Saudi Arabia, while The Daily Mail article pinpoints Coman as potentially the final piece of the jigsaw for Arsenal this summer. football.london understands The Gunners have been in the market for a versatile option to give them greater strength in depth in attacking quarters.

Coman would do exactly that. However, there are a few stumbling blocks such as heavy-handed competition from Saudi Arabia and the Frenchman's mooted £300,000 per-week wage packet. He also has three years left to run on a contract with Bayern that he signed back in 2022.

The 57-cap international used to play for Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. At Juventus and Bayern, Coman settled on wearing the No.11 shirt, eventually, but that option is not currently free at Arsenal, nor is the No.29 shirt he opted for during his early days in Bavaria after signing for Bayern.

As things stand, the shirt numbers available for Coman include; No.13, No.16, No.25, No.26, No.28 and No.30.

However, if he does sign, the Frenchman could well pick up the club's iconic No.10 shirt. Emile Smith Rowe left that behind when he joined Fulham this summer and The Gunners are yet to reassign it.

Past owners in the Premier League include Dennis Bergkamp, Robin van Persie, Jack Wilshere and Mezut Özil.
