Liverpool close in on first summer signing

Mamardashvili will become the maiden arrival of Arne Slot’s Anfield tenure following their failure to land Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimnendi.

The Valencia goalkeeper is on the cusp of a move to Merseyside after agreeing to meet his current employers’ asking price of €40 million (£34.1M).

But Mamardashvili, 23, will remain in La Liga for the rest of the current campaign under the terms of the deal and could be extended upon review.

Anfield chiefs are expected to factor in Alisson’s future when deciding the Georgia international will be integrated into Slot’s squad next summer.

The Brazilian remains the Reds’ first-choice stopper and is under contract until 2027 but continues to be linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have struck a £25M deal with both Brentford and Bayer Leverkusen for the sale of their promising defender Sepp van den Berg.

The Dutch centre-back has made no secret of his desire to pursue a move that will guarantee regular first-team football away from his current employers.

Van den Berg joined the club in summer 2019 but has made only four senior appearances before embarking on loans with Preston, Schalke and Mainz
