Liverpool drop hint over defender's future as he's left out of squad for Ipswich clash

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has been left out of their squad for today’s game against Ipswich Town with a transfer potentially on the cards.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool are set to kick off their season in the Premier League against Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town with the Reds hoping to have a solid season under the Dutchman after Jurgen Klopp departed Anfield this summer.

Liverpool’s summer has been ridiculed by the Spanish press with the Merseyside club yet to make a signing in this summer transfer window.

Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi turned down a move to Liverpool this summer but sources have told HITC that Giorgi Mamardashvilli has agreed terms over a move to Anfield.

Joe Gomez left out of Liverpool squad
Outgoings have been important for Liverpool this summer with the Reds selling Fabio Carvalho to Brentford this month and it appears Joe Gomez could be next on the list.

HITC reported that Gomez was ready to leave Liverpool this summer with the English defender not being first choice for the Reds.

Gomez has been left perturbed that he was offered to Newcastle United as part of a possible deal for Anthony Gordon.

HITC is told that Slot is open to Gomez staying, but he can’t guarantee him any regular first-team football for Liverpool next season.

Sources have told HITC that West Ham United, Brentford and Crystal Palace are all keen on signing Gomez this summer. Aston Villa are also understood to be interested in the defender.

With the Reds kicking off against Ipswich Town today, Gomez has been left out of the squad which could suggest a move is close to being completed.

Gomez would be a good signing for Aston Villa
Unai Emery’s Villa have been busy in the transfer market this summer with the Midlands club preparing themselves for a tilt in the UEFA Champions League.

Villa have signed midfielder Amadou Onana from Everton and added Englishman Ross Barkley to the club on a free transfer.

Gomez would make a lot of sense for Villa with the Englishman able to play at centre-back and at right-back and he could be a key depth option for Emery’s side.

Newcastle are also keen on the English defender but the Magpies are currently focusing their efforts on Marc Guehi and if Villa could pull off the signing of Gomez, it would be a brilliant addition.
