'Massive gap': Arsenal 'laughed at' offer they received for their 'unbelievable' player recently - journalist

Arsenal are still open to selling a few of their players this summer.
The Gunners have just returned to North London after a positive tour of the United States. Even though they only won one game – against Manchester United – it was a good outing in preparation for the new Premier League season.

On the market, Mikel Arteta has so far signed David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori, while reports have claimed that Arsenal are on the verge of signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.

In terms of outgoings, Emile Smith Rowe is about to leave Arsenal, and talks are ongoing to sell one of the Englishman’s good mates as well.

Arsenal received a laughable offer for Eddie Nketiah
Eddie Nketiah’s future at Arsenal has been up in the air for a while now.

The Englishman started the season as Arteta’s second-choice striker, but following Kai Havertz’s brilliance in the role up top, he dropped further down the pecking order.

Nketiah, branded as ‘unbelievable’ by Gabriel Jesus, has no future at the Emirates, which is why he has been heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer.

French giants Marseille, who are now managed by Roberto De Zerbi, are really keen to sign the Arsenal number 14 in the coming days.

Reports have claimed that Nketiah has even agreed personal terms with Marseille over a move this summer.

However, there is no agreement between the two clubs because Arsenal are not prepared to accept Marseille’s low-ball offers.

Dharmesh Sheth has revealed that the Ligue 1 side’s first offer for Nketiah was laughed at by Arsenal a few weeks ago, while their second bid is unlikely to be accepted as well.

However, talks are ongoing between the two clubs to find an agreement.

Sheth told GiveMeSport: “We do know Marseille are interested [in Nketiah]. Their initial offer a few weeks ago was effectively laughed at by Arsenal. That offer had such a massive gap to Arsenal’s valuation, so big in fact that we didn’t know whether Arsenal were expecting Marseille to come back in.

“The information that I was given was that we were expecting Marseille to go back in, and they have done that. We think the offer that has gone in now is around £17 million.

“Now, that still may not be as much as what Arsenal would want, but it is enough for them to at least continue the conversation. So the fact that the two clubs are still talking would imply that there is a possibility that a deal can be done there.”

Arsenal set affordable asking price for Nketiah
It is no secret at this point that Arsenal are open to selling Nketiah this summer.

Jesus and Havertz are both ahead of the Englishman in the pecking order, while Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli can also play up front if required.

Cashing in on Nketiah would be the right move, and reports previously claimed that Arsenal want £50 million for their striker (TalkSPORT). That figure always seemed unlikely – Marseille are never going to pay so much.

Sami Mokbel has now had his say on X, and the journalist has revealed that Arsenal will sell Nketiah if they get £30 million for him.

That is a fair figure for a player who scored just five goals in the 2023/24 season.
