'More difficult': Arsenal's move to sign ‘incredible’ player may just have become trickier - insider

Real Sociedad seem to be caught at the centre of a transfer storm right now.
The Basque outfit have two of the most coveted players in La Liga at the moment, and both could be on the brink of moving to the Premier League.

With two players from the same club in the same position linked with a move away, it’s fair to assume that their futures could be linked.

Writing on his Patreon, Arsenal insider, Team News and Ticks has now shared an update on Merino and Zubimendi and how the two deals affect one another.

How Martin Zubimendi affects Mikel Merino deal
Team News and Ticks says that the Zubimendi deal isn’t as cut and dry as some people think.

However, he does note that if that move does go through, it will affect the Merino deal.

Indeed, the reporter says that the cash from the Zubimendi deal will allow Real Sociedad to hold out for more on the Merino transfer, which may lead to a move costing around £25m.

Fortunately, he also notes that the ‘incredible‘ midfielder is still very likely to join Arsenal, but the deal is now a tad more difficult.

“However if Zubimendi goes through, Sociedad will have 54m more than expected and it isn’t as essential for them to cash in on Merino with a year left on his contract,” He wrote.

I believe they have said they will grant his wishes so it’s unlikely they hold on to him if they get the Zubimendi money in but the fee involved will have to be more like the figures reported (circa £25m).”

“The club remain confident we will see Merino in North London but Liverpool/Zubi could make it a touch more difficult/expensive. “

Real Sociedad’s disaster summer
Arsenal and Liverpool will, of course, be seriously affected by this update, but spare a thought for Real Sociedad.

Merino and Zubimendi were one of La Liga’s best midfield pairings last season, and now, both players are seemingly set to leave at the same time.

Luckily, Real Sociedad will receive decent fees for both men, but it will be tough to replace both star players in the same transfer window.
