'No': Darren Bent says £180,000-a-week Liverpool player is actually not 'world-class'

Liverpool have quite a few world-class players in their squad.

The Reds have been one of the best teams in the Premier League for many years now, and they were very successful under Jurgen Klopp.

Some players have moved on in recent seasons, but there are still a few who are truly world-class. The likes of Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker and skipper Virgil van Dijk all fall into this category.

Darren Bent, however, feels one Liverpool player gets wrongly put into the world-class bracket.

Darren Bent says Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is not world-class
Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best players in the Premier League.

The Englishman has been a mainstay in Liverpool’s defence for many, many years now, and he played a huge part in their success under Klopp.

Alexander-Arnold has started this season brilliantly as well. His superb pass opened up Ipswich’s defence and helped Diogo Jota score.

Every Liverpool fan will argue that Alexander-Arnold is a world-class footballer, but there are a few who don’t put him inside that bracket.

Bent, who has rubbed shoulders with many world-class English players in the past, is one of them.

The pundit has argued that Alexander-Arnold is just not a world-class player despite everything he has done in a Liverpool shirt.

He said on talkSPORT (August 23 2024, 4:16 pm): “You think Trent is world-class? World class? No! World-class?

“Come on! That’s a big shout. He is very, very good. World-class you are talking about now?”

Is Bent right about Alexander-Arnold?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but saying Alexander-Arnold is not a world-class player just seems a bit silly.

Yes, the £180,000-a-week (Spotrac) Englishman has his flaws. His defending is perhaps not at the level of some of the greatest right-backs in history, but almost everything else he does on the pitch is unbelievable.

Alexander-Arnold has directly contributed to 100 goals for Liverpool in all competitions. That is an outrageous return for a defender.

Irrespective of what Bent and others feel about Alexander-Arnold, we think the Englishman is a world-class player and is among the best in the business.

Liverpool should do everything they possibly can to extend his contract before it expires next July.
