'Progressing': Liverpool looking to tie up first signing of the summer in the next three days - journalist

Liverpool do not have much time left if they are to make a meaningful signing this summer.

The Reds have been sluggish in the market since the end of last season, so far failing to do anything at all in terms of incomings.

Although the first-team squad is currently stacked with talent, there are some clear areas that Arne Slot could do with improving. Time is running out to do that this year.

Things appear to moving by way of outgoings, at least. Liverpool could permanently sell five players between now and next Friday’s deadline.

The hope from supporters will be that the money generated from these sales will lead to at least one or two coming through the door at Anfield. And it appears that Liverpool fans could now be just a day or two away from finally getting their wish.

Liverpool set to tie up Giorgi Mamardashvili deal
It has been a long and frustrating summer for Liverpool supporters. As others around them have strengthened, they have done nothing.

While ending the window with zero signings would not be the disaster some would make it out to be, there is little doubt that it would place deserved scrutiny upon the Liverpool owners.

Thankfully for them, they now look set to avoid sharing an unwanted title with Tottenham as the only team ever to go through a full summer without a single new addition.

Liverpool have been pushing to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. And although it is perhaps not an exciting transfer for the here and now, it could be a smart move one or two years down the line.

Mamardashvili looks set to join and be loaned out for a season or maybe two and according to Spanish journalist Hector Gomez, the move could be sealed within the next three days.

Taking to X on Tuesday evening, Gomez gave the latest on what has been described as a ‘very strange’ Liverpool move for Mamardashvili.

“Negotiations are progressing to sell Mamardashvili to Liverpool and keep him on loan,” claims the reporter.

“35M € [£30m] guaranteed plus bonuses (I don’t know the figure) plus % future sale around 10%. 2-3 days should be closed.”

Giorgi Mamardashvili set for Valencia loan
In a summer of little business, this is not a transfer that will set the pulses racing for Liverpool supporters. It does nothing to improve the squad immediately.

Nevertheless, it should still go down as an impressive first bit of business by sporting director Richard Hughes.

Mamardashvili looks like one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the world right now. At just 23, the Georgian will surely only get better, too.

An intriguing part of this story has always been where Mamardashvili would be parked before his eventual arrival at Liverpool. According to Gomez, the Georgia international will stay at Valencia.

Although the Reds may have preferred him to get Premier League experience, this could heighten the chances of Mamardashvili being Liverpool’s own Thibaut Courtois, spending more years in La Liga before shining at Anfield. It’s almost done.
