Raheem Sterling: 'Surprise' new Arsenal details emerge

Arsenal are paying less than half of Sterling’s £350,000-a-week wages during his season-long loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old England international completed the move from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates late on transfer deadline day (August 30).

It is believed a deal has been agreed in which Arsenal will be required to cover less than half the winger’s full wages, and there’s also no obligation to buy Sterling or a loan fee.

Given the player’s calibre and standing, that will be seen as a surprise as well as a fine piece of negotiation by the north London club.

New Chelsea manager Enzo Mareseca made it clear that Sterling isn’t in his plans going forward by saying that he “prefers a different type of winger”.

Sterling was part of Chelsea’s ‘bomb squad,’ training away from the first team alongside Ben Chilwell, who couldn’t secure a move before the transfer window closed.

Arsenal get Raheem Sterling on cut-price deal from Chelsea
Sterling made 81 appearances for Chelsea and scored 19 goals after joining from Man City for £50m in July 2022.

The former Liverpool man was one of the first new signings to arrive at Stamford Bridge following the takeover by co-controlling owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly.

However, despite making 43 appearances in all competitions for the club last season, he was deemed surplus to requirements by Maresca.

When Sterling was not involved in the Premier League opener against former club Manchester City, his representatives released a statement saying they wanted ‘clarity’ over his future.
