'Really big': Fabrizio Romano has 'crucial' update for Liverpool fans about Zubimendi's potential transfer

Liverpool’s pursuit of Martin Zubimendi appears to be headed in the right direction as the Reds look to make the Real Sociedad midfielder their first signing under Arne Slot.

Zubimendi has £51m release clause in his contract that Liverpool have shown a willingness to trigger. However, they are yet to fully convince the player to ditch his boyhood club in favour of a move to Anfield.

Now, with the saga believed to be approaching its climax, Fabrizio Romano has delivered a fresh update on what Zubimendi thinks of a move to Liverpool as he continues to weigh up his opinions.

Martin Zubimendi torn between Liverpool and Real Sociedad
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano claimed Zubimendi has been tempted by Liverpool, although Real Sociedad are yet to throw in the towel in terms of convincing him to stay put.

Romano said via his YouTube channel: “A crucial story. Liverpool are going really big for Martin Zubimendi and the player is really tempted. He has rejected many clubs but believes Liverpool could be something really special for his career.

“On the other side, Real Sociedad started working with their board to keep Zubimendi. The manager is also talking to him to persuade him, so Zubimendi is in a complicated, beautiful situation.”

Martin Zubimendi to have final say on potential transfer
If Liverpool trigger the £51m release clause in Zubimendi’s contract, Real Sociedad will be unable to stop the player from negotiating personal terms with the Reds.

Slot’s side wouldn’t have stepped up their pursuit if they didn’t have the financial muscle to pull off the deal, indicating that Liverpool have the funds to trigger the release clause.

Richard Hughes also knows Zubimendi’s agents well, which could give Liverpool a potential advantage in sealing the deal.

The technically adept central-midfielder is currently with the Real Sociedad squad for their pre-season friendly against Union Berlin in Germany, but the sooner he makes up his mind, the better it is for all parties involved.

The good news for Liverpool is that it appears that a move to Anfield does appeal to Zubimendi.

Slot’s side have thus far put all eggs in the Zubimendi basket and are yet to sign a player this summer, so there is a lot riding on this for them as the new Premier League season edges closer.
