Report: PL club could make late move to sign £125k-a-week player from Arsenal before deadline day

Arsenal have been slow burners in the transfer window but they could still complete a number of deals before deadline day.

The Gunners are close to signing Mikel Merino after impressing at Real Sociedad over the last few seasons.

Merino also enjoyed a productive Euro 2024 campaign with Spain, featuring in every game of the tournament including the 2-1 victory against England in the final.

Once that deal has been completed, Arsenal could move to sign an attacker, especially with one of their wingers now being linked with a move away.

Reiss Nelson of Arsenal at Sobha Realty Training Centre on August 13, 2024 in London Colney, England.

Leicester could make late move for Reiss Nelson
Leicester were linked with Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson earlier in the window but those rumours went quiet due to his lofty asking price.

Though, the Telegraph have now revealed that The Foxes remain interested in signing Nelson ahead of deadline day in 11 days time.

The 24-year-old wide player will find it tough to play regular minutes at Arsenal this season so it’s thought the club are open to sanctioning a permanent sale.

A loan with an obligation to buy was discussed with Leicester earlier in the window but Nelson’s £120k-a-week wages could prove to be a stumbling block.

Reiss Nelson price tag
Nelson, who appeared on the bench in Arsenal’s opener against Wolves, is thought to be valued at around £25m.

Indeed, for a player who made just one Premier League start last term, that’s set to put off most forthcoming suitors.

So Edu Gaspar will have to lower his demands if the club are to make a sale this summer.
