Report: Real Sociedad left frustrated after what Arsenal have just done with Mikel Merino so close to signing

Arsenal’s 2024/25 campaign has gotten off to a seamless start with four goals scored and zero conceded.

However, the summer transfer market has proven to be slightly more difficult to manoeuvre with only one signing having come through the doors.
Mikel Arteta has been able to welcome Riccardo Calafiori who was on display in the victory over Saturday evening against Aston Villa.

The Italian was brought in during Arsenal‘s pre-season tour of the United States and the wait for signing number two has gone on ever since.

It has now been claimed Mikel Merino has completed his Arsenal medical with a move agreed between the Gunners and Real Sociedad.

However, there is now growing frustration from the Spanish outfit with the midfielder now on the brink of becoming an Arsenal player.

Real Sociedad growing impatient with Arsenal over Mikel Merino deal
It would seem Arsenal are now just awaiting the final touches before announcing the Spain international as their second summer signing.

It is even believed that Arsenal are already looking at a deal for Joan Garcia with Merino so close to signing.

Although the signing seems to be close, there is clear frustration from Sociedad who are waiting for the deal to be announced by the Gunners.

According to Estadio Deportivo, Sociedad are now awaiting the confirmation from Arsenal so they can get on with their own signings.

The Spanish outfit are now ready to announce their own signing in Mats Hummels but it’s claimed they require Arsenal to confirm Merino’s arrival first.

On top of the signing of Hummels, Sociedad are also looking to bring in a new striker but Arsenal are now said to have ‘hit the brakes’ on their Merino announcement.

Arsenal could still do with signing a striker
The clock is certainly ticking down on the north London outfit who has just a matter of days to seal any late deals.

Kai Havertz has gotten off to a solid start this season with a goal in the opening game, however, Gabriel Jesus has now suffered a setback.

But he wasn’t available for the game. We have to see [if it is a long-term injury],” Arteta told the media about Jesus.

“Probably Sunday or Monday we’ll have the results to see if it’s a matter of days or weeks. We don’t know.”

Given Arsenal are looking to get their hands on the title, this is hardly the start to the season they needed considering they already had questions over their striker options.
