'Talks held' - Man Utd swoop for £17m Arsenal target despite Gunners bid

Manchester United have made a move to sign Fenerbahce defender Ferdi Kadioglu this week despite reports of an Arsenal bid being sent for the 24-year-old.

The player has been hotly tipped to make a move to the Premier League this summer with Brighton also believed to be well in the mix of clubs chasing the Turkey international's signature. CaughtOffside reports that the Seagulls were weighing up a possible bid while Turkish outlet Nutuk claimed that the Gunners had already offered cash.

That fee was believed to be €20 million euros, which is around £17 million, but Fenerbahce are said to be holding out for closer to €35 million. It is not known whether Arsenal are willing to up their reported offer to that sum.

Turkish reporter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu now adds that the Red Devils are dark horses in the transfer saga, having had talks with the player's team over a potential move amid bids flying in. The reporter said: "Manchester United met with Ferdi Kadıoğlu's representative and asked about the contract terms he would demand from them in case of an agreement with Fenerbahce."

Kadioglu made a huge 51 appearances in all competitions for Fenerbahce last term, registering three goals and five assists from the back. The player is known for his versatility, being able to play on either side of the defence, as well as in midfield. That fitness and versatility is thought to be a major attraction for Premier League clubs ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The defender formerly represented the Netherlands youth sides but is now a fully-fledged international for Turkey. He featured in all of Turkey's Euro 2024 matches as the nation made it to the quarter final.
