‘This is the reality’: Fabrizio Romano - Player said ‘yes’ to Arsenal move, contract agreed

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a move for Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino.
According to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 28-year-old has said yes to the Emirates Stadium move and a contract has already been agreed between the two parties.

Manager Mikel Arteta is said to be a huge admirer of the Spaniard and the player knows this. Therefore, he is yet to pen a new contract with Sociedad despite entering the final year of his current deal.

Arsenal still have some work to do as they need to agree a transfer fee with the La Liga outfit.

Merino’s current contract has a £55 million release clause but the Gunners will be looking to negotiate a far lesser fee.

The 28-year-old would be an excellent addition for the North Londoners who have already completed the signing of Riccardo Calafiori for £42m.

The Spain international mainly plays in central midfield but he can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder.

Merino has been one of the most important players for the White and Blues since joining them in 2018. So far, he has made 242 appearances across all competitions for the Basque outfit, with 27 goals to his name.

The former Newcastle United man also impressed with his performances for eventual champions Spain at Euro 2024. He scored a 119th-minute winner to help his nation defeat Germany in the quarter-final of the tournament.
