‘World class’ attacker excluded from match-day squad after holding talks with Arsenal

Arsenal have made one signing so far this summer but they’re now close to bringing in a midfielder.

The Gunners are on the verge of signing Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino after his impressive season in La Liga and at the European Championships in Germany.

Mikel Arteta has already given Merino training drills to do ahead of his move to the Emirates as he’s hopeful the 28-year-old can make an immediate impact against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Once that deal is completed, Arsenal may try to sign an attacker before the transfer window slams shut on August 30.

With that said, one of their reported targets has just been excluded from the match-day squad.

Federico Chiesa excluded from Juventus match-day squad
Federico Chiesa’s agent has held talks with Arsenal this summer after it became apparent he’d be leaving Juventus.

Chiesa has just one year remaining on his contract so this window is the last chance for Juve to get a decent fee before he becomes available on a free transfer in a year’s time.

As such, he’s been offered to a number of top clubs around Europe and The Gunners are one of the clubs keen on signing him.

Now, it’s just emerged, that he’s been left out of Juventus’ match-day squad for their clash against Como this evening.

Federico Chiesa price tag
Chiesa is expected to cost suitors £13m this summer, which is a far cry from his previous valuation of £25m earlier in the window.

The ‘world class’  attacker would be one of the bargains of the window if he were to depart Turin for that fee, so Arsenal really should consider lodging a bid.
