Alexander Isak drops clear Arsenal hint as team-mate confirms private transfer chat

Alexander Isak has spoken to Anthony Elanga about a possible move to Newcastle, appearing to dampen any discussions over a move to Arsenal.

The in-form striker was tipped as a target for Arsenal in the summer, after Newcastle got notice that they were at risk of breaching profit and sustainability rules in the Premier League. Arteta looked ready to make a move for Isak, with talk of a hefty £100 million fee swirling around.

However, after the sale of Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £68m, Newcastle looked to be in the clear when it came to keeping their prized forward.

Arsenal have been admirers of Isak's for a while, as it was reported that the club scouted Isak when he was at Real Sociedad - but refused to pay his £77m release clause, meaning that the Magpies snapped him up instead.

Arsenal fans may also have had their hopes of the Swedish striker donning a red jersey crushed even further, as Nottingham Forest winger Elanga admitted that his countryman has tried to convince him to join Newcastle.

Newcastle made a considerable offer of £35m for Elanga in the final day of the transfer window, but Forest stood firm to keep the winger at the club.

This discussion between the Swedes raises further doubt about Isak leaving St. James' Park for the Emirates Stadium, as he looks to be trying to convince other players to join his team - and not pushing for a move elsewhere Arsenal are arguably still short of another out-and-out centre forward, not that it's cost them so far this season. The Gunners have won two from three in the Premier League, defeating Wolves and Aston Villa, before succumbing to a 1-1 draw against Brighton.

Arteta's side took the lead through Kai Havertz, but a contentious Declan Rice red card allowed the Seagulls back into the game and they duly equalised not long after through Joao Pedro. Arsenal have the perfect opportunity to put that result right after the international break when they travel across north London to take on Tottenham on Sunday.
